Himalayan Musk Rose (Rosa moschata) | index

Tea and marmalade can be made from the vitamin C rich hips; the bright red hips attract birds in the autumn and winter; they are also attractive as landscape plants and can be used as a fence to stop any intruders.

The plants grow upright and reach mature height of 5 to 6 feet. An abundance of flowers are pure white and very fragrant. The bright red fruits will range from 1 to 2 inches long and are attractive. Hardy from USDA Zones 8-3.

Lemon Grass (Cymbopogon citratus) | index

Lemon Grass is one of the most widely used plants today.

The most valuable use is by the vitamin industry. 90% of all natural vitamin D is extracted from Lemon Grass. Citronella, which is a mosquito repellent, is extracted from Lemon Grass. Cooking with Lemon Grass gives foods flavor, making them rich in vitamins. Lemon Grass tea, hot or iced, is refreshing and healthy to drink.

Besides being a plant of many uses, the whispy foliage of Lemongrass makes it attractive for pot growing or as an annual ornamental in cold areas. When the smell of lemon is desired, simply break off a leaf or stem and the scent will freshen the area where the plant is located.

Sweetie Sixteen Stevia (Stevia rebaudiana) | index

The plant is an annual, and in 4 months each plant will yield ?lb. of dried leaf. The steviocide is 20 times more powerful than the sweetener sugar, so that means there is an equivalent of 10 lbs. of sugar from just one plant.

Elderberry (Sambuscus canadensis) | index

This branchy shrub is a true native of North America. Its beautiful large white flowers appear in early summer. In late summer there are abundance of tiny black berries. The berries are used to make juices, wine or jelly. All of nature's animals, especially birds, love the fresh Elderberry fruit. In the autumn the plant's foliage shows off its brilliant orange to burgundy colors. It is an outsanding plant for any landscape or wetland planting. Hardiness is for USDA Zones 4a-8a.

Hummingbird Tree (Abutilon vitifolium) | index

Click for larger viewThis new Red Abutilon is a native of Chile, South America. Click for larger viewThe plant was the most magnificent specimen I have ever seen. It was growing robustly and proudly to the sky in the gardens of Santa Francisca, owned by Francisca and Juan Carlos Etcheborne.

The plant grows straight and upright, making a beautiful tree. The flowers are the brightest deep red and they're shaped to perfection. USDA Zones 9-11.

Papaw (Asimina triloba) | index

Also called "The Custard Apple" because of its delicious taste of vanilla custard. The tree grows to about 25 feet and the fruit is 3" - 6" long. The plant has the characteristics of a tropical tree. Two palnts are needed for pollination. The fruit is used in pastries, ice cream, breads, cookies, etc.

Some people calle the Papaw the "Miracle Fruit" and attribute their good health to it. The tree is an excellent ornamental and shade tree. Our Papaw plants are easy to plant and grow. Plants are hardy from USDA Zones 7b-4b.
